MI bowl first in crunch clash against RCB

Mumbai Indians will be looking to dismiss the Royal Challengers Bangalore cheaply after winning the toss and opting to field first in their crucial IPL clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

With identical records so far, except for a few decimal points with regard to their respective net run rates, a win for either side would see them leapfrog the Rajasthan Royals into fourth spot, at least for the time being.

Coming off the back of losses in their last matches respectively, both MI and RCB will look to make full use of the batter-friendly Wankhede Stadium as the tournament enters its business end.

The home side has been immaculate in their pursuit of winning targets, having won four of the last six matches in which they have chased.

This is thanks largely to the explosive exploits of their batting line up which includes the likes of Tim David, Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan.

Despite this, the spotlight will undoubtedly be on skipper Rohit Sharma, who has not fared well with the bat of late, having scored just five runs in his last four IPL innings.

Meanwhile, RCB’s middle order will need to step up and show what they are capable of, having relied heavily on their top three batters which includes Virat Kohli, skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell.

While they may have home advantage, Mumbai will look to grab their first win against the Bangalore side since the 2020 edition of the tournament, where they came away with a five-wicket victory in April of that year.

Since then the men in blue have lost four matches over two tournaments to their red-kitted counterparts.

Both teams make one change each with Chris Jordan making his IPL debut for MI while Vijaykumar Vyshak comes in for Karn SHarma.

MUMBAI INDIANS: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Piyush Chawla, Chris Jordan, Jason Behrendorff, Kumar Kartikeya, Akash Madhwal

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE: Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj. Vijaykumar Vyshak, Harshal Patel.
